There is bingo on Tuesdays at the Dickie Bird now starting at 8.30pm, a quiz and Strike It Lucky on Wednesdays from 9pm. A free supper at both events. Sunday lunch from 12 30pm. Now open Tuesday to Sunday from noon.

During last week a large quantity of paving stones disappeared on two nights from a driveway to a cul-de-sac off Thwaites Brow Road. This is one of a number of similar incidents in the area.

Joan Jones led the morning worship Service at Long Lee Methodist Chapel on Sunday. Her theme for the service was “the sea and those connected with it”. There were readings by Adrian Moore, Pauline Ainley, Elaine Webber and were about the story of Jonah and the whale and Jesus and the disciples on the sea of Galilee. Joan accompanied the first hymn on the piano and the rest used recorded music.

On Saturday at St Barnabas Parish Church there was a memorial service for David John Harben, son of Patricia Harvey who is a member of the congregation there. The extended family, gathered from many countries, including the US and Spain met with friends from St Barnabas for a memorial and celebration of David’s life. The servicewas led by The Reverend Malcolm Foy assisted by the Reverend Canon Peter Cole, this was followed by High Tea.

On Sunday the Reverend Malcolm Foy was the celebrant at the sung Parish Communion, readers were Janet Richardson, Joyce Samuels and Margaret Anstey.

Billy Clayton preached on the need for exceptions to be available for rules and also led the intercessions. Carl Pybus administered the chalice and Edna Huggett played the piano.
