Come the fifth week of the school summer holidays I am usually a frazzled wreck.
The children and I have exhausted all local places of interest, and the thought of yet another picnic is anathema to me.
Thanks to Sonia Evers and her indomitable team of volunteers at the Hainworth Wood Community Centre, this summer has been full of fun entertainment for both myself and the children.
Days away, arts and crafts, luncheon with the over-50s on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Four days a week, every week of the holidays when I didn’t need to consider ‘what shall we do tomorrow?’ What did the girls most enjoy? The over-50s’ luncheons.
Especial thanks go to the gentlemen who were magnanimous when losing at dominoes, to Gilly for allowing the children to assist her (they felt so grown up), to Jacqueline, Betty and Ann for teaching crafts we don’t do at home and to Sonia for encouraging her volunteers in their endeavours and not dismissing their ideas out of hand.
HWCC is, for my household, now more accessible than at any other time in the past. Thank you.
