A ward councillor has presented prizes in a competition designed to enlist youngsters into the battle against the scourge of dog fouling.

Councillor Adrian Naylor dished out rewards to the winners of a contest at Silsden’s Aire View Infant School.

Pupils were given the job of creating eye-catching, hard-hitting posters to remind people of the dangers and anti-social aspects of dog fouling.

Coun Naylor said: “This is an excellent example of co-operation between Aire View School, the police, Bradford Council and Silsden Town Council.

“I will be providing some new litter bins for Silsden, and the winning competition entries will be made into stickers, which will be put on the bins reminding people to clean up after their dogs.

“A few years ago, Craven ward councillors and Bradford Council ran an anti-dog fouling campaign. Unfortunately, the problem was not solved and has again become an issue.

“This time I hope by engaging young children, the councils and the police, we will be able to be more effective.”

He added contributors to the popular Silsden.net website had been marking the location of dog mess on an interactive map, so when the new bins are installed, they will be placed in the most suitable spots.
