Work has re-started on an Oxenhope housing development project that stalled after the original firm in charge went into administration.

A new company has taken over the Charlotte Court site in Station Road, which is on land that used to be occupied by Perseverance Mill.

Directors of Horsforth-based CSW Developments Ltd say they are in the process of building ten houses, and aim to have them finished within 12 months.

Sales and marketing director, Mark Stevenson, said: “It’s full steam ahead, and we’re on the land now with diggers.

“Everyone is keen to see the site built on, as it has been a bit of an eyesore.”

The scheme was initially in the hands of Leeds-based Britannia Developments, which advertised it as a range of detached three, four and five-bedroom properties.

However, construction ground to a halt late last year, with only four of the planned 14 houses completed.

Administrators said this firm had fallen victim to the economic slump and had made “significant losses” for a number of years.

CSW Developments bought the Charlotte Court site last month. The company has previously built homes in Oxenhope and Cullingworth.

Mr Stevenson said the four homes completed by Britannia had already found buyers through the administrators. He added CSW has also sold one of the ten additional homes still to be finished. “We’re honouring the deposits people paid when this was still with Britannia,” he added.

The ten new properties will comprise six four to five-bedroom detached houses and four three to four-bedroom town houses.

Oxenhope Parish Council had expressed its support for the Britannia development, arguing that since the destruction of the mill in 1990, the land had become derelict and unsightly.

Councillor David Ashcroft, who lives close to the site, said: “It’s very positive news for the village.”
