An amateur rugby league club has converted its efforts on the pitch into cash for charity.
Silsden Park Rangers staged a battle between the captain’s ‘Young Guns’, the eventual victors, and the coach’s ‘Old Boys’.
Proceeds from the annual encounter, held in tribute to late club officials and former players, were donated to Manorlands this year.
The £1,100 proceeds included £500 from husband and wife Granville and Mary Christine Horner, ex-smokers who saved the cash accumulated through not buying cigarettes.
Fundraiser, Andrew Wood, said: “Sue Ryder provides the vast majority of palliative care within Silsden, and we are very grateful to the rugby club, which has recognised our work by selecting us to benefit from this fantastic event.
“We’re also full of admiration and gratitude for Mr and Mrs Horner.”
