The Haworth Exhibition Trust makes small grants to assist students in further education who live in and attended schools in the Worth Valley. Application forms are available at the Haworth Medical Practice. Closing date is Friday, September 27.
Worth Valley Speedwatch – On August 21 between 11.15a -12.15pm a speed watch was carried out by PCSO Wynn-Evans in the Mill Hey area of Haworth, monitoring the speed of vehicles travelling from Cross Roads towards Haworth. During this period, the speed of more than 120 vehicles was checked and seven were caught travelling in excess of the 30mph limit. All these drivers will be issued with a warning letter. Then from 12.15-1pm a speed watch was carried out on Hebden Road on the stretch between Cross Roads to Brow. More than 80 vehicles were checked and only one vehicle was caught speeding.
The Friends of Haworth Park would to thank the shops and businesses displaying the collection boxes for the bandstand appeal. Also, a big thank you to all the residents who supported the Friends and who raised both funds and the profile of the project. Funding has now been secured to complete the bandstand. Fuller details will become available shortly.
The Stanbury and District WI will meet on Monday at West Lane Baptist Church at 7.30 pm for their annual meeting. This will be followed by members reading short poems and prose extracts. There is a fashion show coming up at the same venue on Wednesday, September 18 at 7.30pm. Entry is £2, non-members welcome.
The Haworth & Oxenhope District Bridleways Group’s final dressage competition is on Sunday at Lilyhall Livery Stables, Haworth (when the tests will be Intro A, P12, P18 and N28) and an organised ride on Sunday, September 29. The group’s annual show was held on Sunday, August 25 at High Laithe Livery Stables, Oxenhope. The In-hand Senior Champion was C Haines-Vickery on The Full Monty, with runner-up C Mitchell-McCarthy on Myrestone Lady Luisa. Junior In-hand Champion was J Wilkinson on Poppy, with runner-up O Wasley on Twinkle-toes Sparky. Ridden Senior Champion was A Wheeler on Little Joe II, with runner-up J Rhodes on Springlawn Boy. Junior Ridden Champion was F Andrew on Boston Lady, with runners-up G Hird and N Fairbank on Tremele Vashti’s Lad. Full results on the website. The next monthly meeting is on Tuesday, September 24 when the talk will be on winter feeding. The final pleasure ride of the season is on Sunday, September 29 (Grainwater Bridge) and there will be an In-hand Fun Show on Penistone Hill on Saturday, October 12.

This year’s Worth Valley Horticultural Society late flower and vegetable focusing on chrysanthemums, dahlias, pot plants, fruit and vegetables. It will be held at Haworth Community Centre, Butt Lane on Sunday, September 29 from 2-4.15pm. Entries will be taken until 11am on the show day. At this week’s meeting, members of Worth Valley Young Farmers took part in a sports day hosted at a member’s farm. Races included an egg and spoon and an obstacle race. The club are also preparing for Keighley Show where they will have a stand, and also where they will support the show by stewarding various classes. Haworth Community Centre has been closed through out August, but has re-opened. The next bingo is on Saturday at 7.30pm.
