Silsden Allotment Association’s show at the weekend was hailed the best ever.
The event, at the organisation’s Elliott Street site, attracted more than 100 high-quality exhibits.
Chairman John Cobb, an experienced gardener and veteran exhibitor, said standards far exceeded those set by many larger and more prestigious organisations. The show featured vegetables, fruit, flowers, eggs, domestic and children’s sections.
Youth worker and retired headteacher, Mike Carey, presented the awards and commended the community spirit and atmosphere at the event.
The ‘Gibson gang’, a family of three generations that shares a single allotment, swept the board by winning the best-in-show trophy – for a harvest basket of four vegetable varieties – and the award for most points overall.
