Keighley’s poppy appeal has collected £33,400 in the past year.

Organisers say they are delighted with the amount and thank everyone who gave their support.

“We bucked the trend by being one of the few towns in the country to increase donations rather than see them decreasing due to the recession,” said Jackie McGinnis, for Keighley Royal British Legion.

“As we enter the new year of the poppy appeal next month, we shall again be asking members of the public to give their support by helping distribute the boxes, with street and supermarket collections and in the shop.”

She added that contrary to some rumours that were circulating, the branch would continue to meet at the New Variety Club in Keighley on the third Wednesday of every month. New members are welcome.

A Christmas party is to be held on December 18 and tickets will go on sale soon. Contact any committee member or phone 07882 458849 for information.
