On Thursday, September 5, I handed in a petition with 1,587 signatures which called for Keighley Town Council to be more transparent to allow, as a matter of principle and democratic transparency, filming of the council meetings. So it is with disgust that I now inform those that signed this petition that seven councillors stood up and walked out and were not present to listen to our reasons and comments. This is totally irresponsible and ignorant and I ask everyone who signed the petition to contact their local councillor and ask it their voice is only worth listening to on election day!
The biggest insult came when these councillors returned and not only did they join in the debate, but voted; this without listening to the voice of 1,587 electors. What a total disgrace and if I knew all seven I would name and shame them but as my focus was on the mayor I can only name four. On the day the group ‘Cavetown’, which I represent, won the moral high ground and yet again proved why we want the right to film the meetings.
