I am in complete agreement with the couple in the Keighley News article – Couple’s plea to help cut speeds (August 29).
I also live in Bogthorn on the main Oakworth Road, and can confirm on occasions cars reach speeds between 40-70 miles per hour travelling in either direction.
There are certain boy racer cars I can identify as culprits as some of these, when travelling through Oakworth and after reaching Slaymaker Lane, put their foot down, and by the time they are in line with my house, are in excess of 50mph. I have an old 70s photograph of the main road showing the Oakworth sign, and next to it was a round, red-lined 30mph sign. These signs have long gone, and should they return, I don’t think they would make any difference to the speed people drive, but would certainly be a reminder of the limits. Speed cameras are the only way to combat the lunatic drivers but, of course, it would be difficult to place these in the area we are talking about without affecting someone’s property, and that would create complaints. I certainly wouldn’t be happy if one was plonked outside my house spoiling the views.
