So, our esteemed MP is quite happy for steps to be set in motion for Britain to prepare for action in Syria. Well, he needn’t include me in those sentiments.

How many of his constituents did he consult? Is he thinking only of supporting his leader?

We all know that sarin gas was used but there is no proof where it came from and just because David Cameron says it was Bashar al Assad who is responsible does not make it so. Has he conveniently forgotten where “limited action” in Afghanistan and Iraq led us? Has he not considered the hundreds of thousands of innocent people who died to prove a point for the American presidents who started the interventions? And what about the chemical weapons used by the USA – the Agent Orange in Vietnam, where the dreadful effects are still being felt: the napalm – remember the photos of those atrocities? And I expect the atomic and hydrogen bombs could also be included as chemical weapons, the list goes on and on.

And here he goes, happily accepting that the same might happen again. It is so easy to start things that are impossible to stop or control, but you can be sure that the rest of the world will be drawn to take sides and escalate the damage.

Stay out of things, Mr Hopkins. If you have any influence, use it to get aid to the suffering instead of threatening to create even more.
