A cycling project for youngsters will begin this Saturday with weekly classes at a Keighley school.
Cycle Keighley will eventually see people of all ages, including families, taking to the road with new skills and confidence.
Organisers are running the sessions from 9.30am to 11am at University Academy Keighley for anyone aged five to 16.
Hannah Lindsey, one of the organisers, said: “The aim is to teach children how to ride, how to check their bikes and to improve their confidence and fitness.
“We hope eventually to have short recreational rides for families and gentle rides along the canal bank or on minor roads.”
Cycle Keighley has been set up to build on the massive interest generated by the Tour de France coming to Keighley next summer.
Head coach Richard Taylor said: “With the junior section we’re trying to create more recreational cycling rather than competition, which many of the clubs already work towards.
“They will become confident cyclists, either on the road or off-road on bridleways.”
The Saturday sessions will cost £2 a week. Anyone needing a bike and helmet should call 07702 071779.
