A successful annual open day staged by a Worth Valley football club has raised £1,300 for Manorlands hospice.
The event was held at the Bronte playing fields by Oakworth Juniors Football Club. It featured friendly matches for all age groups, and culminated in the Sue Hewitt Memorial Trophy game, in aid of Manorlands. This was contested between Oakworth club coaches and people connected to the fire service. The fire service team won by five goals to two.
There was also a release of 400 balloons, which was sponsored by the business Helium.
Club secretary Richard Hewitt explained that the open day originally came about due to the “fantastic” care his late wife received in Manorlands. She died in April of last year.
“Plenty of people came along to support us and we made a lot of money for Manorlands and for the club,” he said.
