The Haworth Exhibition Trust makes small grants to assist students in further education who live in and attended schools in the Worth Valley. Application forms are available at the Haworth Medical Practice. Closing date is the September 27.

The Great Stanbury Harvest Festival Bake-off will take place on Saturday, September 28 at St Gabriel’s Church, Stanbury, from 1-4pm. Competitors display goodies 12-1pm and from 6.30pm there will be results, entertainment and supper. Categories are best traditional cake, cup cake, savoury tart, fruit tart, biscuit, conserve/pate, children’s cake/bun (under 15s), handicraft item, home-grown produce and best groomed and behaved pet. The Haworth & Oxenhope District Bridleways Group’s next monthly meeting is on Tuesday, September 24 when the talk will be on winter feeding. The final pleasure ride of the season is on Sunday, September 29 (Grainwater Bridge) and there will be an in-hand fun show on Penistone Hill on Saturday, October 12. Meetings are held at the Old White Lion, Haworth, at 8pm, preceded by a junior meeting at 6.45pm. The Worth Valley Horticultural Society set up in 2012 to organise a late flower and vegetable show was a great success, attracting exhibitors from a wide area. The show this year focusing on chrysanthemums, dahlias, pot plants, fruit and vegetables, will be held at Haworth Community Centre, Butt Lane, on Sunday, September 29 from 2-4.15 pm. Entries will be taken until 11am on the show day. There will be raffle tickets on sale and an auction after the show. Worth Valley First Responders are local volunteers trained by the Yorkshire Ambulance Service, who respond to local emergency calls. Their aim is to assist and treat people who need assistance from the ambulance service until their care can be handed over to an ambulance crew. More responders are needed now. Haworth Riding For the Disabled are asking for voluntary help for a couple of hours each week on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday mornings from 10am-noon or on Saturdays from 9.15am-1.25pm. Full training, insurance and unlimited tea and coffee will be given. Further information on (01535) 649448.

CarelinK befriending scheme can provide support and companionship to older people who live alone and do not have many visitors. CarelinK can arrange for one of its volunteer befrienders to visit each week for a cuppa and a chat, or perhaps to take a short walk together. Volunteers are police checked and vetted.
