Oakworth Juniors Football Club held its annual charity day in aid of the Sue Ryder charity last week and yet again it was a great success. All the teams played against local clubs including Bingley Juniors, Sutton Juniors, Keighley Shamrocks, Queensbury, Bradford Park Avenue and Silsden. The club would like to thank these clubs for helping to make the day so successful. There was a charity game for the Sue Hewitt Memorial trophy between the club coaches and the fire service who won 5-2. Along with proceeds from the barbecue, tuck shop and tombola there was a raffle, guess the name of the bear (won by Ellis Jalil) and a balloon race, sponsored by Helium, they managed to raise a considerable sum for the charity. The winner of the balloon race will be the one whose balloon travelled the furthest by October 1.

The group would like to thank everyone who helped to make it a very special day and look forward to the next one.

For further information about the club and future fixtures, contact club secretary Richard Hewitt on 07843 560119 or visit the website at oaksjfc@blueyonder.co.uk. At a meeting of the Friends of Holden Park group last week it was agreed that one final attempt would be made to raise interest from other groups within the village in helping to stage the Halloween event. We are looking for support from other groups in creating new displays and/or coming up with new ideas for this event as there are just too few members of our group to stage it alone. Any group or individual who is willing to get involved can contact the secretary on andrew.wiseman@blueyonder.co.uk or ring 07972 727269. We are hoping to hear from you before the end of September.
