Two people from Denholme died last night when a car left the road and crashed into a hair salon.
The 27-year-old driver and a 19-year-old rear-seat passenger, both from Denholme, were killed in the crash, which happened in Thornton shortly after 11pm.
The front-seat passenger, a 32-year-old man from Thornton, also died.
The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution they were travelling in hit Michelle Champion Hair Design, on the corner of Thornton Road and Kipping Lane.
Passers-by and the fire service battled in vain to save the occupants of the vehicle.
Crews from Fairweather Green and Illingworth fire stations were called out, and were joined by a technical rescue unit from Cleckheaton.
Metal fencing surrounded the corner of the hairdressers this morning with the windows and the doorway boarded up, as panes of glass lay shattered on the ground.
Chunks of stone from the lower part of the building had been demolished.
West Yorkshire Police have now issued an appeal help to find out what led to the tragic incident.
A spokesman said: “Police are appealing for any witnesses to the collision to come forward or anyone seeing the black Mitsubishi driving along Thornton Road or in the nearby area prior to the collision is asked to contact West Yorkshire Police's Major Collision Enquiry Team via the non emergency number 101.”
