Keighley-district entrants in Yorkshire in Bloom have picked up an impressive haul of awards in this year’s contest.
The 2013 results were announced at a ceremony at York Racecourse on Tuesday.
Keighley won a silver-gilt rose in the competition’s large town section.
Keighley in Bloom chairman Philip Smith said he was elated. “I’m grateful to all those people who made this happen,” he added.
East Morton picked up a silver gilt in the village category while in the individual sections the flowerbeds around Keighley cenotaph ensured this won the best memorial in Yorkshire award.
Keighley & Worth Valley Railway was judged to deserve gold in the visitor attraction category and also gained the discretionary tourism award.
There were further achievements in the private categories, with the Busfeild Arms, East Morton, and Mount Pleasant Kennels, Keighley, both winning gold.
Airedale Hospital won a silver-gilt rose, as did Airedale Shopping Centre, Holmewood Residential Care Centre and Oaks Day Centre. Holden Park and Holden Hall in Oakworth took silver.
Schools also showed off their expertise with a gold for Lees Primary in Cross Roads, and a silver for Riddlesden St Mary’s Primary, Keighley.
