Community group leaders and civic heads gathered in Keighley Shared Church for Keighley Town Council’s annual civic service.

Keighley mayor Councillor Sally Walker was unable to attend Sunday’s event due to illness, so Coun Margaret Ward, herself a former town mayor, officiated in her absence.

The service was led by the Reverend Peter Mott, who stressed the importance of people in Keighley working together to make the town a better place.

Town clerk Miggy Bailey, pictured, said: “It went very well and afterwards we had refreshments in the church hall. It was pouring with rain, which might have put off one or two people.”

She added that despite the bad weather there was still a good attendance from other local authorities, including mayors and chairmen from Calderdale, Hebden Royd, Ilkley, Denholme, Otley and Skipton.

Also present were pupils from Our Lady of Victories Primary School and people representing uniformed organisations, Rotary and Soroptimists.
