A meeting today could help bring an end at last to a problem that has been plaguing residents in Denholme for years.
Plans will be discussed for a new bio filter bed at Omega Proteins, which it is hoped will reduce noxious odours emanating from the site. Householders in the area have had to live with the atrocious stink, which in the summer particularly can be unbearable, for far too long.
It is scandalous that we are still talking about this issue so long after it first reared its ugly head. Why the company and environmental health officers have failed to find an answer is puzzling. Residents deserve a satisfactory conclusion and hopefully today, when a council committee is being recommended to approve the firm’s planning application, they will move a step closer to that goal.
