I write in response to the letter from Andrew Roberts (Keighley News, September 12) and to set the record straight.

Council debated a recommendation from the policy and governance committee regarding the filming of meetings; council did NOT debate the petition.

The mayor had promised in July that this would be debated in September, which was long before the petition started.

Those who chose to absent themselves from the public participation slot, which is not part of the council meeting, probably had their own personal reasons for doing so.

The council meeting proper starts with the mayor’s remarks and all those who had left returned for the start of the meeting.
