In last week’s Keighley News, Councillor Adrian Naylor urges people in Steeton, Silsden and Eastburn to have their say on local development. He feels that new housing will have an effect on schools, transport and sewerage and does not want to see green fields ‘cherry-picked’ by developers.
He is correct. However, these were the very same arguments put forward by residents of Steeton when developers wanted to build on large green belt, a buffer between housing and industry, the field now full of bulldozers, diggers and builders. People may as well save their time and energy, you cannot win. When a developer, backed up by Bradford Council, sets out to build on a desirable green field there are only two chances of stopping them, slim and fat.
