People who are against the building of Jewish settlements in Palestine plan to stage a demonstration in Keighley next month.
Supporters of the Bradford Palestine Solidarity Campaign say they will be outside the entrance to Sainsbury’s supermarket, on October 5, to highlight their opposition to goods produced in Jewish settlements located on Palestinian land.
A spokesman for Bradford PSC said that as Sainsbury’s prides itself on being a leading Fair Trade supermarket the group will be pressuring it not to deal with companies active in the Jewish settlements.
He added: “The Co-op has already ceased trade with four companies trading from illegal settlements. Across the UK campaigns are held monthly outside Sainsbury’s stores.”
The October 5 protest is due to take place from 11.30am to 1.30pm.
A Sainsbury’s spokesman said: “As a non-political organisation we source our products according to our ability to meet the safety, quality and ethical standards that our customers expect.
“All our suppliers must follow the labelling guidelines set out by DEFRA in December 2009 on how to label the country of origin on products, enabling customers to make an informed choice about the products they buy.”
