A new monthly social group for older people will start at the Hub ,in Steeton, on October 2.
The club will be the latest in a network of Not Over The Hill Yet! (NOTHY) groups across the area.
NOTHYs are already held in Haworth and Denholme where over-50s meet once a week.
As well as having an opportunity to socialise, retired people can network with each other, share skills and offer mutual support. Peter Handley, from Community Link, will set up the Steeton group with Champions Show The Way representative Shanaz Begum.
Mr Handley said: “It will work in the same way as the Haworth NOTHY in that it becomes whatever the people attending want it to be. It will belong to the people of Steeton.”
The Steeton group will meet once a month or more, on a day to be decided by members.
At the launch there will be free teas and cake, as well as bowling on the Wii games console.
Mr Handley said NOTHYs in Haworth and Denholme were set up in response to negative comments about how the ageing population was going to cost a lot to support.
He said: “In reality a lot of retired people contribute more to the economy in volunteering in the community.”
More details of NOTHY are available from peter.handley@creativesupport.co.uk.
