Farnhill woman Joyce Wood was given an exclusive bread-making masterclass in her kitchen on Saturday – her prize in a Keighley News competition.
She and three friends were visited by master baker Mike Armstrong and they produced everything from bloomers, cobs, plaited bread and dinner rolls to lemon focaccia, a pizza dinner, chocolate and orange Chelsea buns and Irish soda bread.
“The day was most enjoyable, entertaining and instructive and eating the baking for lunch and afternoon tea was a bonus,” said Joyce.
Award-winning Mike, a regular contributor to our leisure guide The Ticket, said: “Being able to share my passion in a relaxed way was very rewarding.
“I was very impressed with the ladies’ products – and so was Joyce’s husband in the other room enjoying the samples.”
Mike, who works for Sainsbury’s, hit the headlines last year after his Three Cheese and Beer Bread scooped one of the food industry’s Oscar and went on sale at branches of the supermarket nationwide.
Since then he has been in popular demand, giving talks and demonstrations to groups and schools, and runs masterclasses at the Dean Clough Cookery School in Halifax.
