Renewed interest in implementing a Keighley-Oxenhope cycle route after the Tour de France has had a sceptical response from a council chairman.

The scheme, first put forward 11 years ago, but never taken further, will now be re-examined by district council officers to see if they are feasible.

At last Wednesday’s Oxenhope Parish Council meeting, Worth Valley ward Councillor Rebecca Poulsen said the anticipation of next year’s Tour meant people were especially enthusiastic about cycling.

But chairman Councillor Neal Cameron said he had looked at the Keighley-Oxenhope plans several years ago and remembered the initiative faced big obstacles, including high costs.

“The issue was the various parcels of land under private ownership and a lack of willingness by landowners to have public access across their property.”
