A charitable attempt to break a world record for the longest live radio broadcast was called off due to illness.

Presenters Jason Smith, of Glusburn, and Mick Peacock, of Sutton, had intended to broadcast 100 hours non-stop on Cowling-based Drystone Radio to raise £10,000 for Help for Heroes.

Their planned attempt had been registered with the Guinness Book of World Records and was meant to start at 9am on September 6. But it has had to be postponed until a later date after Jason fell ill.

Drystone Radio chairman, David Adams, said: “We still want to have another go at doing this at a later date.

“We had had everything organised and had cleared our schedules for three days but sadly Jason was ill so it couldn’t take place.

“It’s not something he could do if he was unwell, as he wouldn’t have been able to sleep for a long time.”

He added he hoped the rescheduled challenge could be carried out sometime this year.

The current official record for a non-stop live radio broadcast is 73 hours, which is held by German radio station Kiss FM.
