A study into improving transport links along the A56 between Colne and Earby and beyond is due to be completed within the next few weeks by Lancashire County Council.

And the conclusions could have an impact on traffic movement through South Craven, members of Craven Area Committee were told when they met at St Peter’s Church Hall in Cross Hills last Thursday.

Dave Colbert, of Lancashire County Council, said consultation on the East Lancashire highways and transportation master plan was expected to be completed by early December but would not be ready for about two years.

He had been invited to the meeting along with Richard Perry of the Department of Transport to hear concerns from the area committee about congestion in South Craven caused by vehicles travelling east from the M65 along the A6068.

North Yorkshire and Craven district councillor Phillip Barrett said: “We realise this is a complex issue but the situation has worsened in recent years because of infrastructure changes which has transformed the A6068 into a main feeder route.”
