A Keighley school was due to hold a mass yesterday morning in memory of a former pupil who died tragically aged just 22.

Students and staff at Holy Family Catholic School were remembering Sam Hill, who died while on holiday in Magaluf.

Mr Hill, who worked as a plumber and lived in Hospital Road, Riddlesden, died after suffering head injuries in a fall on September 11.

The mass was to be led by school chaplain, Father Mike Walsh, in Holy Family’s Blessed Sacrament Chapel.

Commenting on Monday, a school spokesman said Holy Family usually held a mass in term time each Wednesday, but this latest event provided a special opportunity for people who remember the deceased or know his family.

Mr Hill, who worked at Mitton’s, Bradford, was at the resort on holiday with a friend at the time of the incident.

An inquest into his death was opened and adjourned by assistant deputy coroner Dr Dominic Bell in Bradford on Tuesday.

Mr Hill’s funeral will take place at 12.30pm on Tuesday at St Anne’s Church in North Street, Keighley.
