Manorlands hospice has received a cheque for more than £2,500 from a group of determined fundraisers who completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks walk this summer.
The cash was collected by the ‘Herald Angels’ – comprising Louise Head, Gemma Aldersley and Laura Moon. The trio are advertising staff for the Keighley News.
They have been raising money for Sue Ryder Manorlands in memory of Louise’s Riddlesden-born father, Peter, who was cared for at Manorlands for two weeks.
Peter died from cancer in February of this year, and Louise had wanted to do something to repay the Oxenhope-based hospice for the support it gave to her family.
She and her work colleagues carried out the demanding walk on June 8, despite the fact that Gemma had two broken bones at the time.
Gemma had fallen at home on the morning of the walk, suffering a broken right hand and left arm.
Following the successful but painful 11-hour trek she went to Airedale Hospital and later had surgery to insert pins in her arm.
Louise said: “Me and Laura both think Gemma is a trooper for doing the walk – she should have been in hospital!
“I want to thank everyone who supported and sponsored us, including my step-mum Trish and my dad’s friends at Systagenix, which is where he worked for more than 20 years.”
