A Keighley teenager’s newly-bought car had illegal light-restricting film on some of its windows, Skipton magistrates heard.
Police stopped Zain Hussain in Keighley Road, Skipton, on July 22, and tests revealed the driver and passenger windows of his Toyota Yaris were too dark, the court heard on Friday.
The amount of light able to get through windows must not fall below 70 per cent, but tests on Hussain’s Yaris registered about 33 per cent. Police also discovered a fault in the car’s hazard warning lights.
Hussain, 18, who admitted using a vehicle where there was insufficient transmission of light through the glass and failing to maintain hazard warning lights, had recently bought the car in that condition, the court was told.
In mitigation, Gulfraz Khan said he was surprised Hussain had not been dealt with by police with an out-of-court disposal.
He said Hussain had since removed the film from the windows and replaced the bulbs in the warning lights.
Hussain, of Castle Road, was fined £70 and ordered to pay £85.
