A speech and language therapist from Airedale Hospital will talk about stammering at an event next week.
The free presentation on Tuesday will explain why stammering occurs, the difficulties faced by people who stammer and how the specialist team at Airedale can help children and adults with the condition.
The talk will be delivered by Stephanie Burgess, speech and language therapist at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust.
She said: “The issues that affect people with a stammer are rarely spoken about, and it remains a largely misunderstood condition.
“There are many myths surrounding stammering, and this talk aims to share the ways that we, at Airedale, are trying to change attitudes and dispel some of the myths.
“We’d like people to come along and learn how speech therapy is transforming lives and helping people who stammer.”
The event will be held in the Lecture Theatre, part of the Education Centre at Airedale Hospital, between 10.30am and 11.45am.
Free refreshments will be available beforehand, and there will be an opportunity to meet public governors from the hospital half an hour before the talk begins.
Places for the talk are free, but need to be booked in advance by calling 01535 294540 or e-mailing members@anhst.nhs.uk.
