Baker Mike cast his expert eye over the cakes in a Keighley cafe’s charity baking contest.
Mike Armstrong was joined by Keighley mayor, Councillor Sally Walker, to judge the competition at Lavender Fields.
Coun Walker and Mike, the master baker at Keighley’s Sainsbury’s supermarket, chose who won an afternoon tea or cream tea.
Christine Young, who runs the cafe, said the judging day was “lovely” as she watched the pair sample the 12 entries.
She added: “It was just like watching the bake-off on TV – they were so serious – they checked out the taste, look and consistency.”
Lavender Fields, in Cavendish Street, held the baking competition in aid of Macmillan as part of the charity’s annual World’s Biggest Coffee Morning fundraiser. Julie Farr won first prize in the baking competition, with Deanna Jackson runner-up.
Christine also raised money by auctioning the competition entries and donating her takings from last Wednesday morning.
Christine regularly holds charity events in aid of cancer charities, including Cancer Research, Manor-lands and Breast Cancer Awareness.
She also plans to get involved in Movember, the fundraising campaign to raise money and awareness for prostate and testicular cancer.
She said: “Our fundraising will all be to do with cancer. We lost a close family member last year, and we have a couple of friends affected by cancer.”
Mike will give a demonstration of Christmas baking at Lavender Fields on November 27. Tickets cost £5 form the cafe.
