Newly-formed Friends of Keighley Tarn have drawn up a list of improvements to work on.
The priority will be to campaign for a footpath at the side of the road linking West Lane with the tarn.
Members will also meet with Bradford Council highways officers to look at measures to slow traffic in Black Hill Lane.
Businesses could be asked to sponsor parts of the path, open a cafe at the tarn and look into the lake’s history.
The first Friends meeting, held on Monday, attracted councillors and several residents living near the tarn.
Ward councillor Jan Smithies said: “There weren’t that many people but it was a really good meeting and pushed things forward a long way.”
The Friends plan to set up a website and talk to people visiting the tarn to try to recruit more members.
