Keighley-district created a stir for the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.

Businesses, schools and groups across the area held fundraising events as part of the annual Macmillan Cancer Support initiative.

Staff swapped suits for aprons at the NatWest bank in Keighley, serving up coffee and cakes to customers. Friday’s event, which also included a raffle, raised £200 Liz Smith, business manager at the North Street branch, said: ‘’We were delighted to support Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning this year.

“Our event was a huge success, and we loved working with the local community to raise funds for such a good cause.”

Melanie Fails, partnership account manager at Macmillan Cancer Support, said: “I’d like to thank all the employees and customers of NatWest in Keighley for taking the time to support our World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.

“The Macmillan team wants to ensure no one has to face cancer alone, and without the help of our corporate partners who put the kettle on to make a difference, we couldn’t do this.’’ Keighley’s branch of Specsavers provided a lavish display of coffee and cakes to raise cash, and coined in £350.

The store, in the town’s Airedale Shopping Centre, saw a steady stream of customers throughout the day who enjoyed some of the range of treats on offer, from cupcakes to cookies.

Haworth Methodist Church staged a coffee morning for the cause. The event in the communal lounge at Thornfield, Station Road, raised £222, bringing the total collected by them since 2003 to £1,341.

Residents, staff and villagers supported the event, which was also attended by the new Methodist Minister, Reverend Ruth Crompton.

A Macmillan coffee morning at Pesto Italian restaurant, near Wilsden, raised more than £700. Homemade cakes, teas and coffees were served.

General manager, Ian Russell, said: “We were truly astounded by the amount of local support we received for the event, especially the generosity of our customers.

“The local community really did come together, and we’d like to personally thank everyone who contributed.”

A coffee morning at Trinity Church in Fell Lane raised £335. The church thanks everyone who gave their support.

The Railway Inn at Cononley served-up coffee and home-baked cakes on Saturday, and raised £95. The Punch Taverns pub was taken over by Neil and Yvette Savoury in May, and they are hoping to host regular charity events.

And Byworth Boilers in Parkwood Street, Keighley, raised about £260 with various activities.

Staff brought in goodies, including scones, shortbread, chocolate cake, cheesecakes and orange buns. And there was a silent auction for items donated by customers and friends of the company.

“All the team – both in the offices and the factory – joined in and bought plenty and gave generously,” said Ele Greenwood, the company’s business development & marketing manager. “All in all, we had a super day.”
