Manorlands is appealing for volunteer drivers and part-time receptionists.

People with their own cars are needed to transport patients to and from the Oxenhope hospice’s day therapy unit, which runs from Monday to Thursday.

“The unit offers patients a chance to socialise, laugh, make friends and have lunch and to ensure all their care needs are being met,” said Manorlands volunteer co-ordinator, Johnnie Briggs.

“Our drivers collect the patients from their homes, bring them to the hospice and then take them home again.

“They also take people to appointments and, where necessary, bring people into the hospice to visit relatives.

“Our volunteers are helping people at a difficult time, and through their kindness, lightness of heart and gentle driving, make a real difference.”

Training is provided and a mileage allowance is payable.

The hospice also needs help running its reception desk. A bank of volunteers is required to provide cover for sickness or holidays, or to assist at special events.

“As the first port of call for visitors, health professionals and staff, you will be the face of Sue Ryder Manorlands,” said Mr Briggs. “If you enjoy working with people and have great communication skills, we would love to hear from you. Training is given and you will be well supported.”
