A parish council is making £4,800 available for people interested in starting Tour de France-related projects that will benefit the community.
Councillor Peter Hill, acting chairman of Haworth, Cross Roads and Stanbury Parish Council, said people would be able to bid for shares of the cash pot. The upper limit for each application would be £500, though he suggested more cash might be offered if the proposed project is particularly exceptional.
Parish councillors discussed the likely impact of the Tour’s Grand Depart next July, including the effect on residents who will have to move their cars if they are parked on the finalised route.
Coun Hill said: “Organisers won’t be messing about. There will be some people who are likely to find their car has been moved to the other side of Leeds and has a £250 fine on it!”
He added people who suspect the Tour might have a direct impact on their own lives need to be proactive in finding out what can be done to minimise the disruption, rather than waiting until it is too late.
