Manorlands is due to bag sackfuls of cash as Santas take to the streets.

The Oxenhope Sue Ryder hospice is again among the beneficiaries from Skipton’s annual Santa Fun Run.

Since the event was launched four years ago, Manorlands has received £14,500.

Hospice fundraiser, Rachel Cunningham, attended the countdown launch to this year’s run, taking place on December 1.

“We are delighted to be involved once again,” she said. “We have been a part of the event since the beginning, and it has gone from strength to strength.”

The launch, by Skipton Craven Rotary Club, was held outside the town hall. Santa on his sleigh and his merry helpers were on hand to greet shoppers and tell them about the fun run, which will take place in Skipton’s Aireville Park at 11am.

Representatives of the Yorkshire Dales Society and Martin House Children’s Hospice – the other beneficiaries – were also present.

“Last year, the run raised £15,000 for local charities which is a phenomenal sum,” said Rotary Club president, Bob Marchant. “We are hoping to beat that this year if we can.

“We are grateful to all the local businesses that support it. It’s a great day out for the whole family, and all prospective runners need to do is register, get sponsors and then turn up on the day. They don’t even need to worry about their Santa suit as they will be provided by us.”

The race is expected to attract about 1,000 runners and is just over five kilometres long.

Teams or individual runners can also raise money for their own charity causes. However, the runners are asked to inform the Rotary Club of the total raised so it can judge the success of the event.

And a substantial cash prize will be awarded to the chosen charity of the team that raises the most money overall.
