Silsden Library will open on Monday at its new home in Silsden Town Hall.

Facilities will include a new self-service bay, where people can scan books in and out without having to see staff.

This means the library could be effectively open any time while other rooms in the town hall are being used for activities.

There will be 2,000 books in the ground-floor library, and thousands more can be ordered for delivery from other libraries across Bradford district.

The library, in the former council chamber on the ground floor, will be staffed for more than 30 hours a week.

Jackie Kitwood, a principal libraries officer with Bradford Council, said the self-service method is already in use at other small district libraries.

She added: “It’s a model we’ve used before and it’s successful. Footfall has greatly increased at these libraries.”

The library moved out of its long-time home at nearby Wesley Place so the Bradford Council-owned building could be sold. Proceeds from the planned sale will be used to cover the £300,000 cost of the recent town hall refurbishment.
