Haworth’s legendary Bronte sisters have taken fourth spot in a poll to find Yorkshire’s top 75 icons.
The literary siblings were beaten only by Yorkshire Pudding – which took top spot – York Minster and the Yorkshire Dales.
Ann Dinsdale, collections manager at the Bronte Parsonage Museum, the one-time home to sisters Charlotte, Emily and Anne, said she was pleased with the result.
“Fourth out of 75 seems pretty good to me!” she said.
“I think for a lot of people the Brontes have coloured the Yorkshire landscape and will be forever associated with the county.”
Emily’s classic novel Wuthering Heights also features in the chart, but only made 57th place, and the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway took 62nd spot.
More than 11,000 votes were cast in the poll, staged by Dalesman magazine to celebrate its 75th anniversary.
Other icons in the top 10 included the North York Moors and Fountains Abbey.
Playwright and author Alan Bennett was voted the greatest living Yorkshire icon, taking seventh place overall.
