Anyone living in or passing through the Lawkholme area of Keighley will not have failed to notice the charred remains of what was once a clothing storage area and snooker hall.

The collapsed remnants of the building have stood untouched following two fires.

Neighbours and community leaders are quite rightly questioning why nothing has been done with what has become a potentially dangerous eyesore.

The unsightly mess does nothing to enhance the area.

More worrying is the threat it poses to public safety. While the site is in its present state, anyone – including inquisitive children – tempted to enter is putting their lives at risk.

Bradford Council says it has reminded the owners of their responsibilities. Perhaps it is time for action rather than words.
