With regard to the article on putting traffic lights on the roundabout at the end of the Silsden-Beechcliffe stretch of the Aire Valley Road – ‘Roundabout traffic lights bid revealed’ (Keighley News, April 10). I think this should be implemented as soon as possible.

The problem with the roundabout is that if you are trying to get onto it from the Beechcliffe side, very few people actually indicate when coming round from the B&Q roundabout direction, and it’s very difficult to tell until the last minute whether they are carrying on to the bypass or going up to Beechcliffe. This, coupled with the speed people come round, makes it a bit of a dice with death, particularly at rush-hour times when people get frustrated trying to pull out and are likely to take risks. Another problem, if you are coming from the Silsden direction, is that when there is a queue on the left-hand side, drivers will go on the right-hand side and round the roundabout to avoid waiting, making it even more difficult to get out for the people on the left.

It’s just a pity the planners didn’t have the foresight to make a dual carriageway right through to the B&Q roundabout.
