This May Day weekend, there will be Haworth Craft Fayres at the Bronte School Rooms from Saturday to Monday, 10am-4pm on both days. On sale will be handmade gifts including jewellery, knitwear, toys, chocolates, fudge, textiles, art, photography, cards, baked goods, soaps, cushions, throws, scarves, glassware, hats, candles, soaps, skincare, handbags, admission is £1 but that includes a hot drink from the Home Front Kitchen. The Keighley & Worth Valley Railway (KWVR) will be hosting its annual Railway Children Weekend from Saturday to Monday to celebrate the famous film made here in 1970. Visitors will be able to see Oakworth Station, recreated scenes with actors, travel in the vintage carriages and have guided tours and view memorabilia. On Sunday only, Chris Witty, the actor who played the ‘hound’ boy runner who was injured on the line in the film, will visit Oakworth Station to chat to visitors, pose for photos, and sign copies of the KWVR book ‘The Making of The Railway Children’. On Saturday from 10-11.30am, Lees Methodist Church will hold another of its popular coffee mornings with a bring & buy sale. This month’s theme is ‘May Blossom’. On Sunday, for their 10.30am service, Lees Methodists will join with West Lane Methodist Church, Haworth, for their Sunday School anniversary.
The Cross Roads and Lees Ladies Group meets at St James’ Church Hall, Cross Roads, on Tuesday at 7.30pm. This month guest, Christine Mitchell, will talk on ‘Kasiizi Crafts – Bags of Difference’. All ladies are welcome, cost £1. For more information, contact (01535) 644615.
Over the past 13 years the Bronte Vintage Gathering Committee and volunteers have helped to raise more than £310,000 for local Sue Ryder Care Hospice, Manorlands. This year’s event will take place on Saturday, May 10 and Sunday, May 11, in Haworth Road, just down from The Flappit public house. The country fair-style event covers everything from vintage tractors, steamers, cars, motorcycles, lorries, as well as farming displays, stationary engines, trade stands, craft tents and loads more, not forgetting the famous Beer tent.
