A guided bird walk led by Mark Doveston has been arranged for Friends of St Ives on Sunday at 7am to introduce non-bird watchers to the variety of birds on the estate. The walk will take about three hours and starting off at Coppice Pond to follow the footpath clockwise round the estate. Children are welcome but no dogs please. Cullingworth History Group’s project to produce a book commemorating the men whose names are on the Cullingworth war memorial is now in its final stages. However, two of the names have been very difficult to research. Can you help? We are looking for information about Wm Harrison and A Whitaker. Cullingworth Villagers are urged to get their thinking caps on for scarecrow ideas for this year’s festival on August 23 and 24. The theme will be book characters and nursery rhymes. Two weekly walking groups meet in our villages: the Cullingworth group meets, today 9.15am, Methodist Church Dellside Fold, contact Peter Rye 642136 or just turn up, while the Wilsden Walkers meet 9.15am, Monday, Wilsden village hall, contact Philip on 07796 504900. The walks last for about an hour and are suitable for most people, as long as they wear appropriate footwear and clothing. No dogs allowed.
