Oakworth old people’s welfare group meets at Holden Hall every Thursday afternoon, from 1.45-3.30pm. There is always something going on with bingo, dancing, etc at their weekly meetings. New members are always welcome.

A new venture in the village is an art club at Christ Church on Thursday at 7.30pm. This recently started, popular little group welcomes anyone with an interest in art whether experienced or just beginning.

Keighley Youth Theatre, KYDZ, meets every Thursday at Oakworth Methodist Church. The group has up to 20 members aged ten to 18, and recruit new members through drama workshops. At their Thursday sessions the group learn drama skills as well as devising performances. They also present two stage productions each year. The next production is being planning, so watch this space. Rainbows and Brownies meet this evening – Rainbows from 5.15-6.15pm and Brownies from 6.30-7.45pm. The ages for Rainbows are five to seven and for Brownies, seven to ten, after that you advance to Girl Guides.

Remember your mum or gran making rugs out of old clothes cut into strips and prodded through hessian to make cosy comfortable rugs? This craft is alive and well in Yorkshire, Airedale Ruggers having more than 20 members. A small group meet in Oakworth Methodist Church lounge on the third Monday of each month at 6.30pm. Anyone interested please come along, you will be most welcome.

Oakworth Morris dancers are always on the lookout for dancers and musicians to help continue the tradition. New members are always welcome and they claim that they can teach anyone to dance. They practise most Monday nights between September and July at Oakworth Methodist Church from 8pm but it is advisable to contact them beforehand to make sure there is a practice on the night you wish to attend. A coffee morning is held every Wednesday at Christ Church, with Fairtrade tea, coffee and biscuits, from 10-11.30am and everyone is always made very welcome. There then follows a short eucharist service at 11.30am for those who wish to join in.

The club is looking for a new club secretary as Richard is standing down from the position at the end of the season. The club is hoping to find a new on to take over from the annual general meeting in June.

The Friends of Holden Park are planning to use Le Tour as the theme for their entry in the Yorkshire in bloom competition. To this end they are currently collecting old bikes and spare wheels that can be decorated with flowers in the colours of the leader’s jerseys; any old metal receptacles that can be attached to the bikes would also be gratefully accepted. They are currently working to provide a play area for the older children of the village on the old tennis courts. If you wish to make a donation you can drop it off at Holden Hall during opening hours or put through the letter box with a brief not of what it is for. The first two pieces of equipment for the exercise trail through the woodlands are now in place and discussions are currently ongoing with the woodlands manager regarding further items. If you have an ideas for raising funds please contact a member of the group who work in the park every Tuesday afternoon or ring 07972 727269 or 07950 890307. Plans are now well on the way for the next Oakworth Fairy fest which will be on Saturday, August 9. Stalls are already being booked up and we have several entertainers booked, so if you are interested in helping out, holding a stall or performing please contact the above numbers as soon as possible.

A youth cafe is now open on Friday evenings from 5.30pm, why not come along and find out more about their plans for the future? There are lots of projects are planned for the coming months to keep our older children and teenagers amused. Anyone aged 11 to 19 is welcome to attend.

The next meeting of the Friends of Holden Park will be on Wednesday, May 7 at Holden Hall starting at 7pm. Anyone with an interest in the park is welcome to attend, whether you are interested in helping the gardening group on Tuesday afternoons, helping with the events that are held in the park or have suggestions or complaints that you would like to put forward.

It has come to my attention that broken glass has been left in the park woods causing at least one dog to be injured. Please be aware that children and animals often run through these woods and are at risk of injury if you do not clear away your rubbish when you have been having fun there. Please think of other people.
