Saturday: The 17th Bronte Vintage Gathering will take place in Flappit Fields off the B6144 between Haworth and Cullingworth today and Sunday, in aid of Sue Ryder at Manorlands. £310,000 has been raised at this event since 1998. There are many attractions and events on both days. Sunday: Church Services: Stanbury Church, holy communion at 9.30am and Haworth Parish Church, holy communion at 10.45am. West Lane Baptist Church, 10.30am morning family and evening services with the Rev Chris Upton at 10.30am and at 6pm. The family service is followed by a church meeting.

Monday: Haworth, Cross Roads and Stanbury Parish Council’s annual meeting at West Lane Baptist Church at 7pm including the election of chairman, vice-chairman and committee.
Wednesday: The Haworth West Lane Baptist Amateur Operatic Company present “On The Air” at the church at 7.30pm tonight. This is a light-hearted look at the way we were in the 1940s with music drama and a bit of humour. It will take the form of a radio broadcast presented by the local Amateur Operatic Society featuring songs, comedy sketches, monologues and poignant moments from the two world wars. The audience will be asked to sing along with the well known songs from those eras. Come along and enjoy the fun. Admission is £6 and £3 for children and on the Friday and Saturday tickets will cost it is £8 and £5. The seats are chapel pews and are not numbered. The new bandstand in Haworth’s Central Park is completed and can be used by any sort of group. The official opening date will be on June 22. This is a multi-purpose performance venue, with disability access and has electric power and lighting. Haworth Brass Band rehearse on Monday evenings at 7.45pm in the band room above the Fleece Inn in Main Street. It currently needs more brass and percussion players to make up a full complement of 27 players. It is about a dozen short, so there are vacancies for almost all positions in the band. The band has an illustrious 160-year history, a huge music library and many top of the range brass instruments that can to loaned to members or would be members of the band. Worth Valley Young Farmer’s Club met this week at the local driving range, an annual trip that cost £3.50 but was well worth it, as everyone had a great time. If you would like any information about young farmers, please visit worthvalley.org.
Stanbury and District Women’s Institute meet on Monday at 7.30pm at West Lane Baptist Church, Haworth for an evening of Magic, Mirth and Mystery with Rex Scott. The competition is A Joke. Visitors will be welcomed from Wadsworth WI. Three members enjoyed a gentle three-mile ramble from East Morton on Saturday on a beautiful spring day. The WI at Morton Institute were hosting the centenary baton for the day, on its journey through Yorkshire. In the next two weeks Stanbury WI will visit the Temperance Hall Museum of Costume at Kirkby Stephen for the day, and have a meal out at the Wetherby Whaler at Guiseley. Names are being taken for a July evening visit to the garden at The Grange, Carleton in Craven. Members friends are welcome to join them for this.
The Friends of the Bronte Church is an organisation formed two years ago with the aim of raising funds for the upkeep and restoration of Haworth Parish Church. It arranges various social events and membership is open to all. The speaker at the next meeting of the Haworth and Oxenhope District Bridleways Group on May 20 will be from the British Horse Society. Oakworth Textiles will be running a beginners’ prodded rag rugs workshop in Lees Methodist Church Hall on Saturday from 10am-4pm, with an hour for lunch. Topics covered include preparing a base, transferring a design, fabric types, cutting, prodding, finishing off etc. Participants will each work on a small sampler and mark up another piece of hessian to enable further practice later. The church hall is wheelchair friendly with a ramp leading from the adjoining free car park. The fee of £35 includes tea/coffee, lesson materials, handouts, use of equipment and a peg prodder to keep.
