A PUB extensively refurbished as part of a £450,000 scheme – which also includes the construction of a new brewery – has opened its doors to the public.
The Airedale Heifer at Sandbeds has undergone a major transformation.
And Bridgehouse Brewery, which has carried out the renovation in partnership with Punch Taverns, said the initial response from the public had been overwhelming.
"We have been delighted by the number of people visiting the pub in the first week and by the positive and kind feedback we have received," said James Kelly, the brewery's sales and marketing co-ordinator.
"We hope the pub will become a focal point for the community, and we have plenty of exciting plans lined up for the coming months."
A special VIP launch was attended by more than 100 people, including representatives of the business community and Campaign for Real Ale members.
Guests were greeted by the new pub manager, Heather Hawker.
Consultant chef is award-winning Stephanie Moon, who worked with world-famous Anton Mosimann at London's Dorchester and has appeared on radio and TV.
And a specially-commissioned galvanised-wire sculpture of the Airedale Heifer cow has been installed at the front of the Grade II listed building. The three-metre-high piece was produced by Yorkshire sculptor, Emma Stothard.
"Guest were also impressed with the new Airedale Heifer statue and thought that it will become a real landmark in the area," added Mr Kelly.
"All the staff had been working hard in the run-up to the opening and couldn't wait to throw open the doors to greet people and show them the work that has been completed.
"The pub has a much more open and light feeling about it yet still retains a traditional atmosphere."
Work on the new brewery – being built behind the Bradford Road pub – is continuing.
The overall project is creating 30 full and part-time jobs.
A 'Brewery Lane' pathway will link the two premises, and people will be able to watch the ales being brewed from a specially-created viewing platform.
There will also be a seating area within the brewery, catering for group tours.
The new facilities will enable Bridgehouse – currently based at Aireworth Road in Keighley – to increase production by about half.
An additional brewer is among those being recruited.
