CHILDREN from a primary school in South Craven raised nearly £270 for Sport Relief this year.
The pupils from Sutton in Craven CP School carried out a sponsored bag pack at the Cross Hills branch of Co-op.
A spokesman for the school said: "One of our school groups is the ‘Fundraising Family’, who put together a programme of planned giving to charity throughout the year.
"This year one of their chosen charities was Sport Relief which took place nationally between March 18 and 20.
"The group had some novel ideas for raising money. Firstly they declared a Penny War challenge to all classes – to see which class could collect the most pennies. Year five was declared the winner.
"The fundraisers also contacted the Co-op in Cross Hills and arranged to go bag packing."
The volunteer bag packers provoked a positive response from shoppers, and raised £89. They have thanked the shop's staff for allowing them to fundraise and also thanked all who donated.
Sutton CP's spokesman added that the total raised by the school for Sport Relief was £269.
