WELL, it will be all over bar the shouting by the time you read this.
The ‘it’ of course is the General Election.
All that’s left is for the votes to be cast today, and the result sometime overnight or tomorrow.
Maybe you are sick of hearing about politics and will be glad the election is over. Maybe you will be very pleased or very disappointed at the result.
Whichever party wins, we need to pray for the Government and Parliament – as they will face difficult decisions – and that they will be able to heal some of the divisions in our society.
St Paul in the Bible urges us to pray “for all those in authority” (1 Timothy 2:2).
Maybe you feel that is difficult because "they all promise the earth, but break their promises as soon as they are elected", as someone once said to me.
If you think like that, then perhaps you, like me, need to consider the times we have broken our own promises to friends, family or whoever. We all do so at some time.
The only one who doesn’t break His promises is Jesus. He promises to love us all no matter what we do or who we are – yes, even politicians! His promise of love and forgiveness is a certain promise to all who ask Him. Whichever promises are broken by politicians or by us, let His love bless us all in this uncertain time.
