SUMMER’S here and school’s out!

This is a great time of year to live on the doorstep of one of the country’s finest steam railways, not least because of the discounts offered to local residents in the postcode areas of BD20, BD21 and BD22.

We have so much to offer along the line.

It’s a great day out with the charm of Oakworth, where you can see our very own Mr (or Mrs!) Perks at work, opening the gates just like he did in the Railway Children film.

There’s the opportunity to catch a vintage ‘bus up to Haworth Main Street, travel down to the shops at Keighley, or alight at Ingrow to visit the museums at Rail Story.

We are now running trains every day until September 10 and then weekends and holidays throughout the year.

For those in BD20, BD21 or BD22 you can join our Local Resident’s Railcard scheme, which costs £5 for a year and gives you a discount of up to 50 per cent on standard prices.

Whilst the special fares are not available at some special events or pre-booked trains (such as Santa and Dining services) they can be used throughout the summer period.

Adults can save more than the cost of the Railcard by buying just one ticket: an All Day Rover for a Concession is normally £14, and for Local Concessions just £7.

Similarly, an adult Full Line Return is £11, but for Railcard holders only £5.50.

A Haworth to Keighley Single for locals is £2.80, which is only marginally more than the bus, and certainly provides a more memorable experience.

The Railcard is also a great way to give the family a treat during the summer holidays, because adults can take up to three children with them at a special Local Child Rate.

In the summer period, Local Rover tickets will also give free travel on the open top ‘bus service running from Haworth to Oxenhope via the top of Main St and Penistone Hill.

You can check details of times and days of operation on the website.

If you can’t spare a whole day out, then a Local Resident Adult fare from Oxenhope to Haworth is 95p for a single, which is cheaper than the regular ’bus service.

To get your Railcard, you’ll just need to visit one of our stations with a passport-sized photo and recent proof of your address.

There’s lots more information on all our Real Concessionary Fares on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway’s website.

Whilst the Local Residents’ discount is great, becoming a member also offers similar discounts on standard ticket prices as well as a few free days’ travel for the member and also their family if they take out Family Membership.

Ask at any of the stations or look on the www to find out more about membership options.
