THIS SUMMER the Lord Chamberlain’s Men are touring Shakespeare’s most hilarious farce The Comedy of Errors.

The theatre company, now in their 13th successful year, will make their annual visit to East Riddlesden Hall.

They promise a riotous rollercoaster of a comedy that will keep you guessing and laughing until its joyous conclusion.

The hugely-popular company are premiering this hilarious show at the Brighton Festival, and will then head on to the prestigious Ageas Salisbury International Arts Festival.

Then it’s off around the UK throughout the summer to the most historically important and visually stunning castles, cathedrals and stately homes, finishing their tour in mainland Europe in September.

This fantastical comedy follows two pairs of identical twins, Antipholus of Syracuse and Antipholus of Ephesus, and their servants, both named Dromio.

When they were babies, the twins and their parents were separated in a shipwreck; now, years later, as one half of the twins search for the other they unwittingly find themselves in the same city on the same day.

Peter Stickney, artistic director of the Lord Chamberlain Men, said: “In my first full year leading the company we bring you something new. The Lord Chamberlain’s Men has never performed The Comedy of Errors before, and I can’t wait!

“This hilarious summer comedy is a complete joy, with Shakespeare it’s never that simple.

“He elevates what could just be a story of mistaken identity to new levels with questions about relationships, family and personal identity so that alongside the confusing and hilarious circumstances, the characters are dealing with bigger questions of love and loss before, ultimately, redemption.

“I can’t think of anything more perfect for a summer’s evening than a classical retelling of this great play set against the background of some of the nation’s most beautiful outdoor venues.”

With authenticity, excellence and magic being the watchwords of the company we can expect another summer treat as they bring their own special brand of Shakespeare to the grounds of East Riddlesden Hall.

Be sure to catch this brilliant company perform Shakespeare as it would have been; all male, in the open air and in full Elizabethan costume with traditional music and dance. This is undoubtedly one of the hottest tickets of the summer.

Founded in 2004, The Lord Chamberlain’s Men Theatre Company is the modern incarnation of Shakespeare’s original troupe of the same name.

The Lord Chamberlain’s Men will return to East Riddlesden Hall on August 23.

Picnics are welcome, and this year the historic house, shop and tea-room will remain open until 7pm for anyone wishing to come along early and experience a visit to East Riddlesden Hall in the early evening. General admission applies, free for National Trust members.
